We began our story in 1981 as a manufacturing company called HBS Woodturnings, specialising in CNC woodturning and routing, metal turning and milling services across the UK. Engineering has always been part of who I am, and in 2002 I decided to return back to my roots, and Race Pistons begun it’s early days.

One of the first major steps was acquiring a scrapped press from Priest & Jackson in Black Heath – a company known for pressing steel brake-cylinder pistons. We completely rebuilt the machine from the ground up, fitting it with a new control cabinet and power pack. The result was a fully modernised press with a much smaller footprint and far better efficiency.

As the business grew, so did our workshop to 10,000 sq ft operation in Birmingham. Over the years, we’ve added machines as the work demanded, slowly building up the workshop you see in our plant list today.
